Diederik Boertien és sociòleg i doctor per la Universitat Pompeu Fabra el 2013. La seva línia principal de recerca es centra en l’estudi de la interacció entre la desigualtat i les relacions familiars i de parella. Amb la seva investigació vol donar resposta a qüestions presents en les societats occidentals actuals com ara: per què les persones amb rendes elevades i estudis superiors es divorcien menys que les més desfavorides? Com incideixen les dinàmiques familiars en la desigualtat d’ingressos i en la riquesa? Com afecta l’orientació sexual en la vida familiar i en l’accés a les oportunitats en l’àmbit econòmic i social? La resposta a aquestes preguntes de recerca han estat publicades a Demography, European Sociological Review i a la Journal of Marriage and Family. Diederik Boertien actualment és l’investigador principal de dos projectes vius: Sexual Minorities and Inequality of Opportunity, un Starting Grant finançat per l’ERC (ERC-2020-STG-948557-MINEQ) i Increasing Wealth Inequality in Spain: Who is falling behind and why?, projecte finançat per l’Observatori Social de “la Caixa” (Ref. SR0403- WINEQ). Abans de la seva incorporació al CED, entre de 2013 a 2016 va formar part de l’European University Institute (EUI) en el marc del programma Max Weber (MWP) i com a investigador després.
