Kaustav Chakraborty is a demographer by choice and a statistician by training. He holds a BSc (Honours) in Statistics from Banaras Hindu University and an MSc in Biostatistics and Demography from the International Institute for Population Sciences (IIPS), Mumbai, where he graduated as a Gold Medallist.

Before joining CED, he worked on research projects with institutions such as UNICEF, Seoul National University, and the M. S. Swaminathan Research Foundation, focusing on demographic dynamics, climate change, and health inequalities. His research interests include- population ageing, health economics, health inequality, demographic measurement, and the socioeconomic dimensions of health and well-being. He is currently pursuing a PhD in Demography at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona as a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) doctoral fellow within the TOUCH project, co-funded by the European Union, under the supervision of Sergi Trias-Llimós and Enrique Acosta. His doctoral research examines the intersections of mental health and mortality in the context of ageing societies
