Urban Change and Residential Mobility
Description
Cities are undergoing a continuous reconfiguration of social groups across urban space. Migration and residential mobility play a key role in these processes of socio-economic and urban transformation. In this line of research, we focus from a geodemographic perspective on analysing processes such as gentrification, touristification, the expansion of the most exclusive neighbourhoods in central cities, or the metropolitan suburbanisation of lower-income groups. We pay special attention to how residential mobility and migration contribute to reshaping social and spatial inequalities in urban areas, as well as to better understanding the impact of the growing attraction of Southern European cities for tourists, digital nomads and skilled migrants, and the specific characteristics and dynamics of these different groups.
