Alexander Chaverri Carvajal holds a degree in Political Science from the University of Costa Rica, a Master’s in Public Services and Social Policies from the University of Salamanca, and a Ph.D. from Pablo de Olavide University in Seville. He completed a research stay at the Office of Behavioral Health, Disability and Aging Policy of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in Washington, D.C.

Before joining CED, he served as an advisor to the Costa Rican Congress and the Ministry of Social Development and Inclusion. He also taught several courses at the School of Political Science at the University of Costa Rica. In addition, he has worked as a consultant across Latin America for the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the French Development Agency (AFD) on issues related to aging, demographic change, long-term care, and public policies on social and health services.

He has been the recipient of several research grants, including the LOU 18L551 contract to study Spain’s System for Autonomy and Care for Dependency (SAAD), the Paulo Freire+ Fellowship from the Organization of Ibero-American States, and the Juan de la Cierva Fellowship.
